There's nothing worse to me than a home feeling like it jumped out of the pages of a catalogue. The antithesis to the catalogue look is a collected home - when pieces feel harmonious yet collected over time, rather than purchased in one shopping trip. The good news is there are some styling tricks that will help you create a home that feels more layered AND give it personal meaning.

#1 - Layer in vintage! Shopping at local thrift stores and flea markets is not only economical - but adding vintage into your home helps it feel collected over time, rather than bought out of a catalogue. If buying larger furniture items second hand intimidates you - start with smaller items like art, pottery and rugs - even these smaller pieces will bring a feeling of warmth and variety into a space.

#2 Forage branches and florals and display in vintage vessels throughout your home. I love to bring a pair of clippers on my neighborhood walk and see what I find!

#3 Don't be afraid to mix colors, textures and patterns. And shop from more than one store! Nothing makes a home feel more sterile than a furniture "set."

#4 Display books and items collected from your travels. They will not only feel unique but will be a wonderful reminder of the adventures you've been on!
